그렇죠. 오늘 타자는 시가 아니라 연설입니다. 지금까지 한글 타자기로 한글 시를 타이핑해서 소개하려고 했는데 영어 타자기를 써볼까 하다가 에이브러햄 링컨이 떠올랐습니다. 미국에서 안식년을 보낼 때 워싱턴 D.C.에 들렀다가 커다란 링컨 동상을 보게 됐는데 처음에는 신격화라고 생각했지만, 세상의 큰 분열을 극복한 사람으로서, 건국국가의 가치를 지키는 사람으로서, 관계의 극단에서 일하는 사람으로서 존경받을 만하다고 생각했습니다. 
그래서 링컨이 태어난 켄터키의 폐허와 그가 묻힌 일리노이의 스프링필드를 가보고 느낀바는, 세상에는 분열하는 사람과 화합하는 사람 두 종류의 사람이 있다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 우리 가족부터 화합하면 좋겠네요. 작은 일에서 벗어나 가족이 행복한 하루가 되길 바랍니다.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.
We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate - we can not consecrate - we can not hallow - this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.
It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.


*1863년 11월 19일, 미국 대통령 에이브러햄 링컨은 게티즈버그 전장인 펜실베이니아 게티즈버그에 있는 국립묘지 헌정식에서 연설을 했습니다. 약 3분에서 272단어의 짧은 연설이지만, 미국 역사상 가장 위대한 연설이자 가장 많이 인용된 연설이 되었습니다.
**에이브러햄 링컨(1809-1865), 미국의 16대 대통령 그는 13개 주 밖에서 태어난 최초의 미국 대통령이자 공화당 최초의 대통령입니다.
